Defining a Range Name in Microsoft Excel

In this article, we will learn how we can define a range name in Microsoft Excel 2010 and 2013.

There are two techniques to define a range name.

Let’s take an example to understand how we can define a range name in Microsoft Excel.

We have month name list in column. Now, we want to define the name.

First technique to define the range name

Follow below given steps:-

  • Select the range A1:A13.
  • In the Name box, write the Month_Name and then press Enter on your keyboard.

Second technique to define the range name

  • Select the range A1:A13.
  • Press the key Ctrl+F3 or Go to Formulas tab, and click on Name Manager from the Defined Names groups.
  • Name manager dialog box will appear, then, click on New.
  • New Name dialog box will appear.
  • Write the range name Month_Name.
  • In Refers to, select the range A1:A13.
  • Click on OK.
