How to use the INFO Function in Excel


In this article, we will learn about how to use the INFO function in Excel to extract information of the current file.

Types of INFO function:

Information Key or argument( in quotes)
Path of working file in directory "DIRECTORY"
Number of opened sheets of the working file  "NUMFILE"
First visible upper left cell of the working file "ORIGIN"
Operating System information with version "OSVERSION"
Recalculation mode : mode is ON at Automatic mode. "RECALC"
MS Excel Version using for the current file "RELEASE"
operating System information name  "SYSTEM"

What is the INFO function?

INFO function in excel returns a value which is the information corresponding to the key used.

Syntax of INFO function:

INFO ( "key" )

Here are some observational notes shown below.

Notes:

  1. There are 7 types of information keys and responses allowed using this function.
  2. The INFO function is a volatile function where INFO (depending on its arguments) exists.
  3. Any other key used, the function returns #VALUE! error.
