Transposing Cells in Excel 2007

Transpose is the function that we can use to convert the horizontal range into vertical range and vertical range into horizontal range in Microsoft Excel.

In Microsoft Excel we have 2 ways of Transpose the data.

  • Transpose Function
  • Transpose option

Let’s take an example and understand how we can use transpose function?

We have name list in a column and we want to update it in row. How do we do it through Transpose function?

Follow below steps:-

  • First count cells of the range -its 12.
  • Then select 12 cells in vertical range.

  • Press the key F2.
  • Enter the function =TRANSPOSE(A2:A13)

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter.
  • Columns’ text will get updated in the selected row.

In this way, we use Transpose function in Microsoft Excel.
 
How to use Transpose Option to convert the data from Vertical to horizontal and vice versa?

You will find this option under the Paste Special option. Now we will see how we can use this option to convert the range’s position.

Follow below steps:-

  • Select the range that we want to convert.

  • Copy the range by pressing the key Ctrl+C.
  • Select the cell where you want to paste the data.
  • Right click with the mouse.
  • You will see the Pop-up.

  • Select Paste-Special option.
  • Paste Special dialog box will appear.
  • Click on Transpose.

  • Data will get converted from Vertical range to horizontal range.
