Step 1: Selecting cells containing formulas:
1. Press F5.
2. Click Special, and then select the Formulas option.
3. Click OK.
Step 2: Validation:
1. From the Data menu, select Validation.
2. Select the Settings tab, and select Custom from the Allow dropdown list.
3. In the Formula box, type ="", and then click OK.

I tried your method in excel 2000 sp3 and it does not work.

I tried it in the first it works because I edit the contents but its not working when I delete the content of the cell. I thought its protected but why I can delete it?
