To prevent moving to the next cell after typing:
Press Ctrl+ Enter (instead of Enter).
OR
Deselect the Move selection after Enter Direction checkbox, as described below.
To change the move selection after pressing Enter:
1. From the Tools menu, select Options and then the Edit tab.
2. From the Move selection after Enter Direction dropdown list, select the desired direction.

You should mention that doing Ctrl+Enter when a range is selected fills the entire range with the data entered.Don't move

How about - Tools, Options, Edit - deselect Move selection after enter
