The default setting for sorting in Ascending or Descending order is by row.
To sort by columns:
1. From the Data menu, select Sort, and then Options.
2. Select the Sort left to right option button and click OK.
3. In the Sort by option of the Sort dialog box, select the row number by which the columns will be sorted and click OK.

Sorting numbers with different place holders
Jeremy wrote on December 31, 1969 19:00 EST |
I have a correspondent that frequently emails me with a list of numbers she needs to sort. The numbers range from 39 to 400.
When she is sorting, the sort places 39 right before 390, 391, 392, etc. How do I format the numbers/column so that I do not have to physically add a leading zero each time? Thanks!
