To extract characters from text:1. Select column A.
2. From the Data menu, select Text to Columns.
3. In Step 1 of 3, select Fixed width, and then click Next.
4. In Step 2 of 3, parse the data in the column by clicking the mouse between columns as needed for parsing, and then click Next.
5. In Step 3 of 3, in the Destination box, enter cell B1, and then click Finish.
